back

Since many folks are finding themselves home more than they usually are and are limiting trips out to the grocery store, bread may be one of those “essential” food staples that runs out quickly if you’ve got several people at home.

We tried this focaccia recipe from Gimme Some Oven in the first few days of social distancing and I loved it because you only need a few common household ingredients, it was simple to make, really tasty, and stayed fresh even after a few days being refrigerated. It also looks fancy so it will make you feel like a pro!

ingredients

  • rosemary (I used dried because the stores were out of fresh herbs!)
  • olive oil
  • sea salt
  • flour
  • yeast
  • water
  • sugar

step 1: make the dough and prove it twice

First, you’ll mix warm water, yeast, and sugar and let it sit for about 10 minutes to activate the yeast. The next step will be adding the flour, oil, and sea salt gradually and mixing with a dough hook. After you’ve mixed the dough thoroughly, you’ll need to put it in a bowl and cover it with a damp cloth for the first prove in a warm place for about 45-60 min. Then, work the dough again and leave it to prove for another 20 minutes.

step 2: prep for baking

We split the dough in two so we could have multiple loaves. Poke holes in the dough with your fingers, and drizzle olive oil, sprinkling rosemary and salt to the top as well. Bake at 400 degrees for about half an hour, or until you see the bread is golden.

step 3: remove focaccia bread from oven and drizzle with oil and more salt

I enjoyed photographing this beautiful bread as much as I did eating it! I hope this is a great quarantine recipe you are able to try at home and save yourself a trip to the store. Stay tuned for more pretty foods and tasty recipes!
