I’m Johanna, and I can’t wait to meet you! If this is your first time working with me or having professional-quality portraits done, you might have a lot of questions about the process, which I hope to answer here! At the end of this post, you can fill out a contact form to get in touch with me, or send me an email at framesandletters@gmail.com to start a conversation about your session.
The Frames + Letters Photography Experience
First, please know that my prices reflect a fair value of the work I do and the experience I will provide you with – it requires planning, location scouting, editing, communication, trust, talent, high-quality equipment (both physical and digital), and professionalism. I’ve got examples below of before/after edits, current galleries, and more for you to see!
Whether you have a mini-session or a wedding scheduled with me, I’m going to make sure you feel prepared and confident for your portraits, and that you get HIGH QUALITY images that you will look back at 1, 2, or 10 years from now and still believe it was money well spent.
Your session will include
- pre-session planning and consultation
- the actual shoot-time
- post-session editing (anywhere from 2-8 hours)
- gallery upload/delivery
- digital backup and storage of your images for 1 year
Each session include a combination of digital and print products for you to keep
Before your session: The logistics
When you fill out your contact form, please consider including the following info about your session:
- Potential dates/times for your session
- Potential locations (up to 2 for full sessions)
- Questions you have
- Prints, albums, or products you’re interested in
Your consultation
I’ll get in touch with you to schedule a phone or in-person consultation, or we can communicate via email. We’ll talk wardrobe, weather, and the best ways to feel more comfortable during your session! We can add-on custom requests to your package, like specific print products or albums, plan to incorporate a unique family tradition, or go take pictures at a really cool place you’ve always loved.
Securing your date
A retainer fee for your session secures your session date! Payment will be due via cash, check, or PayPal, and your balance must be paid in full before our session. We can find a payment plan that works best for you, with all retainer fees being nonrefundable (but can apply toward future sessions in case of an emergency).
the fun stuff: plan for the best session ever!
Follow me on Pinterest for outfit and location inspo! If you create your own Pinterest mood board, I’d also love for you to send it to me, so I can get a better idea of your personality, poses and locations that you like. You can have 2 outfits for full sessions, and I recommend wearing unique accessories that make you stand out!
Search Instagram hashtags for your type of session- this is a great way to find more ideas in addition to Pinterest. Add me on Insta @framesandlettersphotography, I love getting to know my clients more before the session!
Create a fun playlist, or let me know what kind of music you love!
How often do you plan on having professional photos taken??? Go pamper yourself and truly enjoy the experience to the max, go shopping and get your hair, makeup and nails done if you’re into it!
During your session
OMG we’re gonna have so much fun! At this point, you are glammed up and full of great ideas as a result of careful planning, and all that’s left to do is strike a pose and let me work my magic! I’ll help you feel comfortable and in the moment with some great music and lots of encouragement. If you’ve got a second outfit or location, we’ll equally divide the time between each, and you’re welcome to bring an emotional support person along to cheer you on if you’d like!
After your session
More fun for me – the EDITING! I will carefully curate your gallery, select the best images from your session and edit them all so you have some great options to choose from. I’ll send out a few sneak previews the week of your session, and let you know when your gallery is ready! Portrait sessions have a 6 week turnaround, and weddings have an 8-week turnaround.
Why can my gallery take up to 8 weeks???
The editing process involves culling photos (going through to delete the “duds”), which in itself can take a few hours, depending on how many pictures I took. Next are basic edits like brightness, color, straightening photos, and more, and after that comes the fine-touch editing (blemish removal, stray-hair removal, skin color correction, more creative edits, etc.). Take a look below to see how pictures look straight out of camera and how I work to transform them!
Smaller galleries, like mini sessions, may generally have around 150 photos, and this process will be much quicker. Larger galleries, such as weddings, can contain over 1,500 photos, and definitely require more hours and extra special attention. A one-hour session can still require 2-3 hours of edit time; in peak months like June-October, editing time will be closer to 6 weeks, but generally my turnaround is much quicker in other months.
Picking your favorites, ordering prints and albums, and more!
Depending on your package selection, you may have prints, albums, USBs, or other products included – after you’ve had about a week to look at your gallery, I’ll send out a separate link for you to select your favorites and begin the ordering process for your photo products. You can always add on products later down the road, they make great gifts! You, friends and family will also be able to purchase high-resolution prints from your digital gallery easily and save it to their devices.
